class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" Sergei Kharitonov Out of Cro Cop Bout at GLORY 17

GLORY

GLORY 17's main event is having a few problems thus far. Originally the plan was for a rematch between Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Pat "HD" Barry, but Zack Mwekassa's fists had something to say about that. That left former PRIDE, K-1 and Strikeforce fighter Sergei Kharitonov for Cro Cop. Well, it looks like a finger injury has sidelined Kharitonov for the next few months, leaving Cro Cop again without an opponent.

June 21st is less than a month away now, meaning that GLORY has to scramble to find a new opponent. The rumored list of names right now is Zack Mwekassa, Jarrell Miller, Jerome Le Banner and Jamal Ben Saddik. There was a remote chance of Tim Sylvia, but that is definitely not happening, Ray Sefo and Ernesto Hoost have apparently also offered their services for the Cro Cop lottery as well. Out of all of these options, Mwekassa is probably the one with the most upside for GLORY. Mwekassa made short work of former UFC star Pat Barry earlier this month and will be fresh in the minds of fans, so he'd be a credible threat to Cro Cop. If Mwekassa wins you have a Heavyweight star that you can nurture, if he loses there isn't much for GLORY to lose at this point.

GLORY

GLORY have been committed to not only bringing the world the sport of Kickboxing, but doing so in a way that is organized and regulated. To do so, they enlisted the help of ISKA (International Sport Kickboxing Association) back in 2012 to help with rules, regulations and officials. They announced today that their partnership with ISKA will continue forward with ISKA serving as the regulatory body for all upcoming GLORY events.

“ISKA is the go-to regulatory interface for ensuring that the ‘Ts’ are crossed and the ‘Is’ are dotted," said Andrew Madigan, Global Head of GLORY Operations and Compliance. “You can feel a measurable rise in confidence with the fighter talent knowing that this vigilance is in place.”

GLORY

Recently fans got to witness Pat Barry make his way back into professional Kickboxing at GLORY 16 where he was brutally knocked out by African slugger Zack Mwekassa. If we are honest with ourselves, we saw it coming from a mile away after Barry's last few UFC fights, but it still came as a shock. In a way it was brutal. Just brutal. To the point where I'm not sure that I want to see Pat Barry step into the ring again if it is going to end like this. His UFC career didn't get tough because of wrestling and submissions, it got tough because he started getting knocked out.

Pat Barry has some friends, though, scary friends. Who could be scarier than former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar? Brock Lesnar, apparently, considers Pat to be a close friend of his and strongly wants Pat Barry to retire, so much so that he reached out to Dana White for help in getting Pat Barry to retire. Dana White, of course, felt he had no place in the matter as Pat isn't one of the UFC's famed "millionaires" that they've made, nor does he have a strong relationship with Dana White, plus he's moved on to work for GLORY. Dana White implied that it was up to Pat's friends, family and for State Athletic Commissions to make Pat Barry retire.

Kind of a sticky spot for GLORY right now, huh? [source]

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" Miguel Torres Added to GLORY 17 Tournament, Cro Cop vs. Kharitonov

GLORY 17

GLORY 17 Los Angeles keeps getting more and more interesting as June 21st rapidly approaches. The original headliner was planned to be Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic vs. Pat Barry in a rematch from their UFC bout a few years ago, but either Pat Barry won't be cleared to compete in time or has refused to compete (it's not clear). That means that Mirko Cro Cop has a new opponent, with that opponent being none other than PRIDE and K-1 veteran Sergei Kharitonov. Both men are at an interesting point in their respective careers, with Cro Cop dropping a decision to Remy Bonjasky at GLORY 14 and Kharitonov being out-pointed by Anderson "Braddock" Silva at GLORY 16.

That's not all, though. GLORY was one man shy for the GLORY 17 Featherweight tournament and now it looks like former WEC Bantamweight Champion and former UFC competitor Miguel Torres will be joining the GLORY roster, getting an immediate spot in the Featherweight tournament. Miguel Torres is an interesting choice, as he was a popular name in the WEC and UFC for a while, but it's hard not to deny that he has looked less-than-impressive of late. It will be interesting to see how he does in Kickboxing.
