Munson

This is always the worst kind of news to have to post, especially for a younger fighter just trying to make his mark on the sport. Roufusport fighter Dennis Munson was participating in a fight in Milwaukee for the promotion Knockout Kings where bystanders claimed to have seen him acting strangely in the third round, only to collapse after the final bell rang. Munson was rushed to an area hospital where he clung to life for a few hours before passing away. This is obviously a terrible turn of events for the Kickboxing community as a whole, as well as Munson's friends, family and teammates.

We here at LiverKick express our deepest condolences and urge you to help the Roufusport team in collecting donations for his family to help cover funeral costs during this very tough time. You can find information about donating here.

LEGEND

LEGEND 3 is coming up -- fast -- in Milan, Italy. If we've seen anything from LEGEND in the past few events, it is that they go big absolutely every time. This time around they've partnered with our friend in Italy, Carlo di Blasi, and his Oktagon promotion to ensure that everything for the event is top notch. The card itself is definitely drool-inducing for the discerning Kickboxing fan, then there is that bonkers promo video that they released. I don't even know, but it's really incredible, like nothing we've ever seen done to promote a fight card before.

Lion Fight

This one feels like it was a long-time coming, for sure. Lion Fight has primarily been a West coast promotion, not straying far from their Las Vegas roots in the few shows that they've run over the past few years. The added interest from airing on AXS TV has made the Lion Fight brand just that much more accessible to fans across the country and Lion Fight has announced that they'll be hitting the road with their first ever event in the East Coast at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut.

So Lion Fight 15 will be the promotion's first time on the East coast and they are bringing all of their stars out, with Cosmo Alexandre headlining the card vs. Mark Holst, as well as an undercard featuring Tiffany Van Soest, Kevin Ross and Jason Andrada. As always, this will air on AXS TV at 9pm Eastern with tickets on sale starting March 29th at http://www.foxwoods.com.

Fightshark

I’m sure that you’ve heard by now, but if not, Mark “Fightshark” Miller is going through a tough time over the past few months. Mark’s story is well known by fans far and wide; Mark was fighting throughout most of his career with a heart defect as well as diabetes -- without knowing -- then discovered the heart condition and was forced to undergo open-heart surgery. Mark was then the first fighter to come back from open-heart surgery in May of 2011. His heroic comeback story is the stuff of legends now for American Kickboxing, with his giant knockout of Nikolaj Falin at Ultimate Glory (the precursor to GLORY). Since then it has been a rollercoaster ride for Miller, including huge ups and rock bottom downs.

Most recently there have been a series of downs, when he was forced into the hospital for complications with his CHD as well as suffering from renal failure. Those complications led to boatloads of medical bills on the un-insurable Mark Miller due to “pre-existing conditions.” Crazy, right? Now he’s facing down a kidney transplant as well as $250,000 in medical bills with his mind still set on another comeback fight. If one thing is for certain, you cannot keep Mark Miller down.

HeadBlade, one of Mark’s sponsors has recognized how tough this HeadBlade user has been over the years and now they are looking to give back to Miller with your help. HeadBlade will be running a special, two-week long campaign to help raise money for Mark where using the coupon code “FightShark” at checkout will get you a 10% discount off of their entire stock, with a portion of the proceeds going to help Mark with his medical bills. So if you are sporting a freshly-shaved head, want to, or know someone that does head over to http://www.HeadBlade.com and enter the code “FightShark” at checkout to receive an instant 10% discount and to help out the storied Kickboxer.

HeadBlade was first approached about helping Miller through this difficult time by Kristen Brown, a two time cancer survivor and Founder of Livetofight.org, a charitable cause dedicated to “Fighting relentlessly for those in the martial arts, mixed martial arts, and combat sports community who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses."

You can donate directly for Mark's medical bills through his GoFundMe.

Yokkao

After the blistering event that was Yokkao 8 it looks like the UK will be in store for more Yokkao events in the near future. It was announced this weekend that Yokkao promoter Stefania Picelli and Supershowdown promoter Brian Calder have come to a multi-year agreement to bring the Yokkao brand back to the UK. This deal will assure two Yokkao events a year in the UK with the next event planned for October at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

Stefania Picelli: “The success of March 8 could not go unnoticed. The partnership signed with Brian Calder will give the possibility to UK Yokkao fans to have really unforgettable Muay Thai events. We will involve our best fighters to raise the level of Muay Thai as no one had ever done before. The passion that binds Brian Calder to the Muay Thai has made possible this wonderful agreement with Yokkao Boxing that will surely discover new fighters. To be honest, we have already some of them under observation .. .”

Brian Calder: “I have worked many years to bring Muay Thai to a higher level in England and I’m pleased to be recognized as the best in the UK by an organization such as Yokkao Boxing. The partnership with Stefania Picelli and Yokkao will allow the Muay Thai to reach the highest level in the UK. Fighters deserve it and I’m sure that they will commit much to meet the expectations.”
