  • Published in Kickboxing

Paul Daley (C) Fight Channel

On Friday Final Fight Championships 12 (FFC 12) will go down in Slovenia. The main event of the evening features recently-signed by K-1 fighter Paul "Semtex" Daley against Miran Fabjan. There were heated words from Daley and Fabjan at each other in the lead up to the event at the official press conference.

"Of course, I watch footage of all my opponents and I was kind of familiar with Miran because he fought one of the guys I fought earlier this year... Alexander Stetsurenko, something like that. Tough Russian guy. Doesn't matter what his name was 'cuz je got knocked out in thirty seconds“, said Daley.

"They call him (Miran Fabjan) the Slovenian Rocky. Rocky is a movie. This is reality. Friday you gonna see what will happen. Friday is reality! No film! No Adrian! Rocky, this ain't a film! This is reality and you will find that out! Trust me. Slovenian Rocky in not a good name to have. Rocky always get f*** up.“, Paul Said.

Miran replied: "He said he doesn't mind taking punches, but I saw the video. He's a really good fighter in attacking mode, but when you get punched in the face, you don't like it! I saw it! When you hit me, I do not care!“

Paul added: "He (Miran) could not beat any of the guys I spar with! You're not even better than my sparring partners! You're not even better than my students! How about that?! You're no better than my students! You're gonna look like an amateur Friday!“

Glory 17: Filip Verlinden Knows The Fight Life

  • Published in Glory

Filip Verlinden knows the fight life. Growing up as the son of a champion kickboxer, it’s second nature to him. While some might think professionally he entered the game late, whether fighting as an amateur or a professional, he been at it as long as he can remember. It was at age twenty-six that he decided to fully commit to kickboxing as a career and it’s been nothing but up for “The Belgian Bull”. Training with his father, Wim, as well as at Hemmers Gym, Filip has captured the IFMA Muay Thai Heavyweight World Champion title in 2010 and racked up countless other wins. Now ranked at #4, Saturday, June 21, 2014, he will be a participant at Glory’s inaugural PPV event, The Last Man Standing where he will face Melvin Manhoef in the first round.

They say, “It’s the quiet ones you have to watch”, this is definitely the case with Filip. He’s not the loud guy or the trash talker, he simply comes to the ring to do his job. His strengths include strong boxing skills and speed but these are just two of the tools that he uses to help him accomplish his goal. In The Last Man Standing tournament he will enter the ring coming off a win against Israel Adesanya at Glory 15 in Istanbul and he feels optimistic. He is a renewed man, now fighting at middleweight Filip feels he has found his niche. Maintaining his weight, he states has been no problem and actually that he feels more comfortable at 185. Whether he remains in the fight world steadily climbing the ranks at Glory, he states there is nothing else he would rather do. Even if he were not fighting professionally, Filip states that he’s sure his job would be something related if nothing more than fighting at an amateur level or being a trainer. Focused is the zone he is currently in.

Both he and his trainer, Nick Hemmers state he has worked very hard to prepare for this fight and his mind is honed strictly on Manhoef, his first opponent. His plans for any of the other fighters will be based solely on how the other matches develop. Like most fighters, Filip states that he has no particular opponent that he would like to face and will do his best to prepare for whoever he is matched up with. Filip shares the enthusiasm of all the fighters and staff at Glory regarding this PPV event as well as Glory’s goal to make kickboxing as popular in America as it is in Holland and Japan.

To his fans around the world, Filip expresses extreme gratitude for their support and that he will continue to put his best foot forward both inside the ring and outside as an ambassador for the sport. If you are ever looking to meet Filip, you might catch him watching a musical which he states he enjoys immensely!

Weekend Results: Friday Night Fights Feb. 28th

  • Published in Americas

FNF

Friday Night Fights bid February farewell last night with a card that featured a highly anticipated match between two well known professional female fighters. The main event of the evening, Ashley Nichols versus Angela Hill, highlighted the distinctive fighting styles of both women to full effect, and showed why both have struck such a strong chord within the North American Muay Thai community. For the first three rounds, Hill demonstrated the aggressive punching and clinching style that inspired her fight name of “Overkill.” The beautiful technique of Nichols was more visible in rounds four and five, when she used front push kicks and long knees to keep Hill from closing in as much, but it was too little too late. Hill won a split decision victory over Nichols, maintaining her undefeated record and winning the WKA North American Flyweight title.

The other pro fight of the evening featured another Canadian from MAS Academy, Robert “White Dragon” Thomas, versus Tarek Rached, the Lebanese Tiger. The powerful Rached bullied his much taller opponent until Thomas gained control of the distance in round two and three. Rached was rocked by a knee and saved by the bell in round two, but not before getting an 8-count. Another crisp right knee from Thomas ended the fight 59 seconds into round three, giving him the win by TKO.

GLORY Last Man Standing: Artem Levin Hype Video

  • Published in Glory

Artem Levin is one of those guys that when you mention his name, people who know Kickboxing have a full understanding that he's one of the best in the world and that when it comes down to it on June 21st, Levin is going to be one of the favorites in this tournament. He's run roughshod over the weight range for years in Muay Thai and Kickboxing and during his reign there have only been two men to ever defeat him; Simon Marcus and Joe Schilling. You'd have to think that Levin would be looking for revenge against either man, but will be happy no matter what with a win.

Of course, Alex Peireira has proven himself and maybe the world is overlooking him.
