Photo of the Day: RENA Returns in August

  • Published in Kickboxing

RENA, the Girls S-Cup 2009 and 2010 Champion returns to the ring in August after a string of bad luck, including a poor performance to a high school student, Erika Kamimura in an exhibition bout and a loss to Ai Takahashi. It turns out that RENA was heavily considering retirement after he loss to Takahashi, where many who had supported her were suddenly declaring her career finished. Luckily her trainers and the officials at Shoot Boxing were able to convince her to continue her fighting career, as she did hold two consecutive S-Cup Championships and would be foolish not to try again.

RENA is set to fight on the August 19th Shootboxing event, the Girls S-Cup Qualifying Event, where the only match set currently is Ai Takahashi vs. Erika Kamimura, with RENA and V.V. Mei set to participate in the event as well. [source]

Warman's Kickfighting Show #59: FIKA, MPL in the Netherlands, Shoot the Shooto and More!

  • Published in Interviews

Yet another episode of Warman's Kickfighting show with Steven Wright and myself discuss the wild world of Kickfighting, from Muay Thai to Kickboxing. This week we start off taking a look at the announcement of FIKA and how it has been received and what we know. Of course, when discussing anything K-1 related there were a lot of concerns and things that we wanted to see.

On top of that, we run down the MPL card coming up this week from the Netherlands. It is an unbelievably packed card and we tear it down fight-by-fight, looking at the good, the bad and the whatever. From there we enter into the realm of Shoot Boxing and just how well will Toby Imada fare this time around?

The show can be accessed from going to Steven's blog or by searching on iTunes (keyword: LordGaul). As always, I'll post it in this thread, but there is a timeout for it, so listen while you can!

Photo of the Day: Shootboxing Returns April 23rd

  • Published in Kickboxing

April is shaping up to be a rather uneventful month for the world of kickboxing after a jam-packed March return for many of the bigger promotions in Europe. We saw the GLORY World Series continue, It's Showtime put on two big cards and Fight Code gave us the gift of Giorgio Petrosyan and a few other big fights. Understandably, Japan has been rather quiet the past month or so. Japan was actually hit by another earthquake today, a 7.4 and is once again on tsunami watch. Needless to say, inactivity in Japan is not a big deal. A few promotions are stepping up and running shows for Japan, to show the strength of the nation as well as to do their best to help out. Thankfully for us, Shootboxing is one of those promotions. Here is their poster. [source]

Andy Souwer Drops Decision to Tsukuru Midorikawa in Japan

  • Published in Asia

Souwer

Today in Japan Andy Souwer made his return to the ring after his December bout with appendicitis that left him sidelined and forced to pull out of a few bouts. Souwer has been back at training for a few weeks and took a fight in Japan for the RIKIX "No Kick, No Life" event on February 11th. Souwer fought against Japan's Tsukuru Midorikawa in a bout that went all five rounds, with two of the judges scoring the fight for Midorikawa and one for Souwer.

Outside of some Japanese play-by-play there isn't much about the fight so it's unclear how it really went down, but one would have to say that this is a disappointing start to 2014 for Andy Souwer who maybe returned a bit too quickly after his surgery.
