Badr Hari Arrested and Released in Dubai

  • Published in Kickboxing

Oh Badr.

Thursday in Dubai, after his successful evening of fights at GFC 3, Badr Hari was detained by police in Dubai over an alleged incident from late 2011/early 2012 involving Badr Hari. Hari was questioned and released, according to his lawyer/manager, but this was just another in a long line of legal troubles for Badr Hari over the past few years. It isn't clear what the incident was or if Badr will be brought up on charges just yet, but does seem to imply that Badr can't go anywhere without running into these kinds of problems.

For fans who are holding onto hope that Badr Hari will some day sign with GLORY and become a staple in their Heavyweight division this is yet another hurdle in a long line of already existing hurdles. Remember that Hari getting a visa for the US might be a bit difficult with this many international arrests and for serving jail time like he did.

Badr Hari Wins Big in Dubai, Aerts and Cooper Draw

  • Published in Europe

Today in Dubai Badr Hari competed in the Global FC 3 Heavyweight Kickboxing tournament in a field that saw Hari, Leko, Oborotov and Graham, making for an interesting blend of old talent and new talent. The big news is that Badr Hari walked away from Global FC 3 with a new belt and some more money in his pocket after he was able to knock out both opponents in short order. First up was Stefan Leko, a guy who used to be one of the world's elite and is now competing beyond his means, to the extent where I almost refuse to watch him fight anymore.

Leko almost had nothing to offer Hari, almost being put down immediately in the first round. He fought back to his feet, though, only to be dropped again and for the referee to stop the bout. Badr Hari's second fight of the evening saw him meeting an old foe in Peter Graham. The two had traded wins over seven years ago, but time was not kind to Peter Graham who found himself knocked down twice in round one as well and Badr Hari having a relatively easy night.

On the other side of the spectrum, Peter Aerts tore his hamstring against Dewey Cooper and both men had a clinch-heavy fight that saw the judges render it a draw. Tough break for Peter Aerts, but it might be time for him to consider spending time with his family, his gym and wrestling more in Japan.

Badr Hari Refuting Arrest Report, Kind Of

  • Published in Kickboxing

If there is one thing that you can say for Badr Hari it is that he always seems to be surrounded by drama. Reports surfaced yesterday of Badr Hari detained while trying to leave Dubai after a two week stay and a successful evening at GFC 3. There have been sparse details surrounding the circumstances of the situation and if it was an "arrest" or if he was simply taken in for questioning. For someone who has been through the legal ringer over the past few years like Hari, those sorts of minutiae are important.

Social media has been abuzz about Badr Hari yet again, with his hordes of fans once again coming out to decry anyone speaking about Hari, claiming that anyone reporting on the news was a "hater." As for word from Hari himself, per usual, Badr Hari is elusive and maintains his aura. We won't hear anything from Hari, but we have seen the strange disconnect that is Hari's social media give mixed messages. Badr Hari himself has stated that he doesn't have Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, but that doesn't stop multiple accounts claiming to be official and speaking for him. At some point they might have, but we never know if they are or aren't, which in 2014 is just ridiculous on many levels.

His Facebook page, on the other hand, only has a message up about celebrating 2 million likes after telling GLORY that he likes that "Arab money" and to not come to him with "coins" again.

Global FC 3 Immediately Updates Tournament: Badr Hari, Graham, Oborotov and Leko

GFC

Now that is some quick turnaround. Last night at about 1:30am I received a press release announcing Global FC 3, then just hours later they announced their full line-up for their tournament. It turns out that Peter Aerts is not participating in the tournament, instead he will be featured on the card, as will American Dewey Cooper. So the question arises of who is in this tournament?

Right now the names are Badr Hari, Peter Graham, Arnold Oborotov and Stefan Leko. Definitely an eclectic mix here, with Peter Graham fighting MMA of late in Bellator, Oborotov has been relatively quiet after getting his hype train derailed by Jarrell Miller and Andrei Stoica and Stefan Leko is, well, Stefan Leko. Leko's career has had a few interesting twists and turns, but it is safe to say that Stefan Leko's time at the top has come and gone.
