Poturak vs. Munoz to Headline FFC7 Sarajevo on March 13th

  • Published in Kickboxing

Orsat Zovko's promotion FFC kicks off its 2015 with another kickboxing/MMA hybrid show that will be headlined by Dzevad Poturak squaring off against Frank Munoz. This is a solid battle of Heavyweights just operating outside of the fringes of being top fighters and could easily find themselves back into the mix with a few big wins.

Poturak had retired due to injuries back in 2013 but was able to mount a successful comeback in the second half of 2014. Munoz will be a big test for the 37 year old fighter, the first big test since his official comeback.

It'a also interesting to note that FFC is technically on FFC17 but that FFC7 was originally planned for Sarajevo and was canceled, making this the FFC event that never happened initially and them now making up for it.

FFC 7: Poturak vs. Munoz

Weekend Results: FFC 8 in Croatia

  • Published in Europe

Fight Channel

Final Fight Championship 8 went down over the weekend in Croatia, the promotion of Orsat Zovko. You might remember the name from such Cro Cop-oriented events as Final Fight (which the MMA media thought was his retirement, lolz) as well as this year's K-1 World Grand Prix Finals. Since then they've been going full blast in Croatia, pumping out quality Kickboxing events and drawing solid crowds for them. FFC8 got a little messy, though, as LEGEND 2: Invasion is coming up which forced both Sergei Laschenko and Pavel Zhuravlev to withdraw from this event. Let's be honest here, it is all about money.

Anyway, Thomas Hron stepped in at last minute and put on the performance of the show, which is admirable. Here are the results from Fight Channel.

  • FFC 8:
  • MMA - 95: Ricco Rodriguez (USA) def. Zelg Galešić (CRO) - R1 3:50 submission
  • KB HW: Mladen Brestovac (CRO) def. Ali Cenik (TUR) - decision
  • KB HW: Thomas Hron(CZE) def. Jahfarr Wilnis (NED) - decision
  • KB 80: Stevan Živković (SER) def. Miran Fabjan (SLO) - split decision
  • MMA - 66:Francisco Barrio (ARG) def. Darko Banović (AUT) - decision
  • MMA -77: Primož Vrbinc (SLO) def. Dušan Džakić (SER) - R1 1:19 TKO
  • FFC Challenger 8:
  • MMA HW: Dion Staring (NED) def. Ante Delija (CRO) - R2 2:42 submission
  • MMA - 77: Ivica Trušček (CRO) def. Goran Vuković (AUT) - R1 2:13 TKO
  • KB HW: Mladen Kujundžić (CRO) def. Senid Imamović (BiH) - R1 1:19 TKO
  • MMA - 77kg: Laszlo Senyei (HUN) def. Luka Jelčić (CRO) - R2 0:30 TKO
  • MMA -77kg: Matej Truhan (CRO) def. Josif Al Said (SER) - R1 3:50 TKO

Final Fight Announces FFC Futures

  • Published in Kickboxing

FFCIt seems that 2014 is going to be the year where Kickboxing organizations are on the hunt for great, young talent, as we've seen K-1, SuperKombat and now Final Fight based out of Croatia push forward with initiatives to discover the next great Kickboxing superstar. For Final Fight's effort they will be calling it "FFC Futures."FFC Futures will be a series of four events held in the tourist city of Opatija, Croatia and heavily feature up-and-coming talents in both MMA and Kickboxing, with cash, prizes and even contracts to fight on bigger Final Fight cards given out.

These events will also be headlined by fights from bigger name fighters under the FFC banner, meaning that the shows will have appeal beyond just finding new talent. The first event is scheduled for March 1st in Opatija and there will be a press conference in Croatia on the 22nd with more details.

FFC7 Results: Poturak Outpoints Munoz

  • Published in Europe

Dzevad Poturak (C) FFC/Fight Channel

FFC has been on a roll for the past few years and if you are wondering why FFC 7 is happening now, sequentially quite out of order, the story is pretty cool. FFC had initially planned an event in Sarajevo but was forced to cancel it. They promised to return to hold FFC 7 and they did just that this weekend featuring a solid card headlined by Heavyweight standouts Dzevad Poturak and Frank Munoz. The once-retired Poturak proved himself still at the top of his game against the very tough Munoz, edging him out for a decision victory in the main event.

As always, FFC events are both kickboxing and MMA events, so we've included both results.

Danyo Ilunga Signs with FFC

  • Published in Kickboxing

Former It's Showtime Champion and current GLORY Light Heavyweight standout Danyo Ilunga has signed on with Croatia's Final Fight promotion. While the promotion did not release details of the contract or when he will debut, they seem excited to have Ilunga on board considering how talented he is.

Ilunga was the long-time top dog of the division until he ran into Tyrone Spong in the finals of the GLORY 9 Light Heavyweight tournament. From there he went on to defeat Michael Duut, Andrei Stoica and Ondrei Hutnik before falling to Saulo Cavalari in the GLORY 18 Light Heavyweight Contender's tournament. I don't expect him to stop competing in GLORY any time soon, though, so consider his move to FFC just in addition to that.

Final Fight's current Light Heavyweight Champion is Igor Jurkovic, which would be a potentially interesting match up down the line for FFC to make.

"We are extremely proud that we have such a big name in Final Fight Championship. I think Danyo Ilunga needs no special introduction since he is the world's best fighter in light heavyweight division and No 1 on Glory raking lists. It is also an important indicator of the reputation FFC has in the international fighting sports scene since fighters such as Ilunga fight only in top promotions,“ said the FFC President Orsat Zovko and added: “We will soon reveal more details on Ilunga's debut in the FFC and we hope it will be as soon as possible.“
